Projects

Alchohol, full circle.

Intro

This is the culmination of a few different ideas working together and we're starting off with V2 because past the idea and proving stages we've already worked through 2 different fairly major designs, despite them never getting built, this project took several pages of math, and we actuially took the time to sketch out the buiilds first. Oh, it was probably becuase it was giong to cost a bit to make too, so we kind of have to get it right the first time. Or at least be happy enough with it not to want to rebuild those major pieces again.

We'll start off with, things learned. If we had to do an oil build again, despite the ammount of soldering it would take, we decided it would be worth it to do a panel of plugs and connectors so that the machine could be oriented in any manner and the plugs could be located in any manner. Also should we do it again, and we just might for beauty's sake, the next one will have that pannel be on the back, and the top front and two side wll be for viewing. We've found that being at roughly knee to maybe hip height is bad for viewer's but in its current location thats about the only option.

More things learned. I started off with alcohol origionally in testing, not mineral oil I just determined that without a very nice seal it wasn't realy feasable and so went on to easier materiels. But, if I'm going to have to make a good seal for the sake of Cryo, I might as well use a thinner fluid that has some interesting properties. So I decided to use alcohol if I did a cryo instead of oil.

And the other thing we seriously noticed was portability. I don't just mean 'Hey, lets go lan party at Jimmie's house.' type portability, I mean even 'Hey I have to move this coming July' and just how do you move a fishtank full of baby oil? That story next. But much more normal daily life, like rewokring the living room setup or the computer is needed in the bedroom not as the media machine any more. It just wasn't portable enough for normal dialy activities.

So, better panel design, more portable, sealed within an inche of its life, still asthetically pleasing. Challenge.

Rather quickly
