Water Cooling

Intro

To most people, water and computers don't mix. To serious modders, water opens whole new windows of opportunity. These days, watercooling is more and more common with the semi-supercomputers being sold to enthusiasts. Mind you, this project was done 3 years ago when watercooling was still relatively unheard of. Watercooling marks the start of a new hobby for both Bob and I, it started with the want for overclocking; Bob wanted to get the most out of his current equipment, and I just like doing unique things. Which brings us to Version 1.

Version 1.0 - November 05'

The Computer

Processor: Intel P4 3.2ghz
Ram: 528mb SDRAm generic
Motherboard: Compaq Presario
Graphics: N/A
Hdd: Seagate 7200rpm 80gb
PSU: Enermax 550

components used, the build process as well as problems, things we learned, and conclusions that spurred us onto the next project.

Here is the system in its (mostly) complete state.

Close up of the radiator - Blackice Extreme 2 240mm - on its standoffs. In this version, the radiator was not mounted, it just sat on the 4 screws as legs.

A side view with the case side off.

CPU water block - CPU 300 V10 (1/2" couplings) closeup.

Shot of the pump - Eheim 1250

Another top down of the setup. (the lights make it go faster)

Version 2.0 - September 05'

The Computer

Processor: AMD Athlon x2 4800+
Ram: 2gb DDR1 Corsair XMS
Motherboard: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
Graphics: 2 EVGA 7800GT OC in SLI
Hdd: 2x WD Raptor 34gb
PSU: Hiper 580w
Case: Antec P180

components used, the build process as well as problems, things we learned, and conclusions that spurred us onto the next project.

sorry for the blurry shots, when we took these, it was just for ourselves, so not too much care was taken for image quality.

Complete, Side off.

Closeup of side.

Cutting holes for tubing.

Buy discs in bulk if you use a dremel like we did.

Cutting out the fan holes. The hole on the right is bigger and octogonal since it is an existing fan hole we cut the metal grate off of.

GPUs with waterblocks on them

Mobo with cpu and waterblock mounted.
